Tanzmesse 2024: Submit proposal for exhibition

Tanzmesse is one of the largest gatherings of professionals within contemporary dance and takes place every two years in Düsseldorf, Germany. The aim of Tanzmesse is to provide a platform for international collaboration, disseminate knowledge and create networks within the dance industry. Each fair brings together up to 1,500 exhibitors and visitors from different countries to present a wide variety of dance arts.  Tanzmesse will take place from August 28 to August 31, 2024.

In 2022, Performing Arts Centre Iceland first participated and then shared a booth with Norway. The Performing Arts Center also sponsored five choreographers who had the opportunity to present themselves and their work.  Now we have secured our own booth to promote dance from Iceland.  As in 2022, the center will compile information about choreographers and works in an online brochure (more to be announced later).

Those with a booth can submit proposals for works for the Tanzmesse programme. You can present a project in three ways:

Frammistöðudagskrá: You can submit a proposal for a full-length work for exhibition on the stages of Tanzmesse, in open space or digitally. This also applies to works intended for younger audiences.

Open Studio: Artists are given 20 minutes to screen a shorter version of a work as well as a studio Q&A.

Insights: Artists give presentations of their work, e.g. with the help of videos and veil presentations.

We would therefore like to invite all choreographers residing in Iceland to send us applications with proposals for performances.

Criteria

Applicants shall have a Icelandic identification number and work as professionals in the performing arts.

Review of applications:

A special selection committee of the Performing Arts Center will review all applications. The choreographers who will be selected will receive a notification and an application link to register their applications on the Tanzmesse website. Applicants themselves pay a registration fee of EUR 25 plus 7% VAT.

However, it should be noted that the final selection will be made by the Tanzmesse selection committee.  If a project from Iceland is chosen, Tanzmesse pays an exhibition fee for all participants for the categories Performance Programme and Open Studio.  Participants themselves need to raise additional funds to cover trips and subsistence.Performing Arts Centre will contribute to a portion of the travel expenses if exhibitions from Iceland are selected for the fair.

Performing Arts Centre application deadline: 5. september 2023
Deadline for applications for selected works for Tanzmesse: 15 September 2023
