Performing Arts Centre Iceland, which was formally established in mid-2021, plays a role in supporting Icelandic performing arts and increasing their visibility and complicity within the country and abroad, it added.
The Centre intends to achieve its purpose through strong promotional and specific initiatives that encourage international relations between performing artists and performing arts institutions in Iceland.
Friðrik Friðriksson graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 1998. He was a tenured actor at the National Theatre for many years and also worked equally in directing and television acting. In 2014 he saddled up, started studying at Reykjavík University and completed an MBA in 2016. Friðrik has in recent years been managing director of Tjarnarbíó.
Friðrik serves as secretary on the board of the European Association of Independent Performing Arts . He was co-chairman of the Board of Directors of Ice Hot Nordic Dance in 2017-2019. In his work for Tjarnarbíó Friðrik has established an extensive international network that will be used by him in the role of Managing Director of the Iceland Performing Arts Centre.
Friðrik will guarantee the day-to-day operation of the Icelandic Performing Arts Centre, lead its development and shape the vision of the Centre in consultation with the Board of Directors.
